Our Story

Providing a safe and loving place for women seeking freedom from addiction.

Nestled in the Kitsilano community, Sancta Maria House has been a quiet force for good since it opened its doors on Valentine’s Day in 1960 by the Sancta Maria Praesidium of the Legion of Mary and constituted on January 26, 1961. For the women who find refuge at its doors, this long-term recovery home is more than just a residence—it's a lifeline.

Here, women battling substance abuse find a structured, abstinence-based program within a nurturing, family-like setting. The goal is simple yet profound: to provide the support, direction, and unconditional encouragement needed to journey toward lasting freedom.

Operating entirely on private donations, Sancta Maria House has helped over 300 women of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and faiths. Grounded in Jesus to serve the marginalized, the home’s core mission is to ensure every resident hears a message of love and experiences a power of healing that transforms her life from the inside out.
